Debbie Reynolds
Born Mary Frances Reynolds on April Fools’ Day, 1932 in El Paso, Texas,
she moved with her parents and brother Bill to Burbank, California when
she was seven years old. She was an enthusiastic and energetic child who
excelled in sports, Girl Scouts, baton twirling and in music, where her
specialty was the French horn.
Debbie’s show business career began at age sixteen when she won the
local “Miss Burbank” beauty pageant. Her win led to a contract at MGM
Studios.
Her extensive filmography includes over 50 films such as Singin’ in
the Rain, Tammy and the Bachelor and The
Unsinkable Molly Brown, for which
she was nominated for an Oscar. Her more recent film credits include Mother with Albert Brooks, In
and Out with Kevin Kline, One for the Money with
Katherine Heigle and four Halloweentown movies for the Disney channel.
She has appeared on countless television programs including Will & Grace as Graces’
mother, Bobbi Adler, and starred in numerous stage musicals
including Irene, Woman of the Year, Annie
Get your Gun, and The Unsinkable
Molly Brown.
She has performed her nightclub act in every major city in America,
Australia, and England. In her 63rd year of show business, Debbie is still “on
the road” an average of 40 weeks a year!
Debbie has been a life-long supporter and fund-raiser for the Girl Scouts,
and has raised over 39 million dollars for the Thalians, a charitable
organization and clinic that has provided mental health care services
to over one million patients at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
In 1979 she established the Debbie Reynolds Professional Rehearsal Studios
in North Hollywood, California, which has become one of the entertainment
industry’s leading rehearsal, as well as professional dance training studios.
Debbie is the proud mother of two children, son Todd Fisher and author/actress
Carrie Fisher. In 1992, Carrie made her grandmother, giving birth to a
beautiful baby girl, Billie Catherine.
